and was desperate to find a church that would challenge me like the one in Nashville did. If they had good music, that would be icing on the cake. I needed friends, and to be well taught. Did such a thing exist in Va. Beach Va.?
An old family friend, Ken, calls one day looking for my mom. I say "Ken, you haven't gone to KPC in years, what church do you go to now?" He says, "I go to Sovereign Grace Church (originally named "The Harbour") They have reformed teaching." Ding! Ding! Ding! How could he have known what I was looking for? I'm sure he had no idea. I hadn't spoken to him in years. But I think that God put the words in his mouth that I needed to hear!
I went that very next Sunday and cried like a baby. I believe it was February 22 1998. I knew I'd found my home. Something screamed inside of me that this is where I belonged. The way that they praised God... the way they gushed with kindness towards each other, and ME a stranger! I knew that these people spent quality time with God as individuals, and corporately. The evidence was clear. They cared deeply for one another. I wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to grow in my understanding of who God is! It was clear that these people wanted that too.
Within a year I wrote this song. I was so happy when I was asked to play it during church one Sunday morning.
It felt so good to sing this song to them. Especially after knowing them for a year by then. I meant every word!
Not long after, I wrote "For those who know better". It was inspired by my bible study friends that I met with weekly. They were my closest friends there at the church, and thus, they inspired and challenged me the most.
Sovereign Grace Church will always have a special place in my heart. I miss them.
lyrics
If truth be known
I'd have to say I love you
If truth be known
I prayed for someone like you
Chorus:
I drifted through oceans
In search of my homeland
I came by the light of the harbour here
Well you could say
"What took you so long"
I fought the waves
Not trusting the current
Chorus:
I drifted through oceans
In search of my homeland
I came by the light of the harbour here
Now I'm walking on water
My faith is made stronger
I'm pointed towards heaven just knowing you
